The game started well by the Geckos, dominating much of the play in the first quarter but not showing it on the scoreboard. Although kicking against the breeze, the Geckos were only down by a goal at the end of the first. Stern words about making the most of scoring opportunities from Coach Paddy Hurley seemed to work as the Geckos came out and piled on 5 goals during the second quarter. The game remained in the balance during the second half, but slowly the Geckos were emerging at the better team. Although down by 2 points at 3-quarter time, the Geckos were looking the goods to finally take back the Java-Bali Cup after 3 goals by tall ruckman Shane followed by one each to Nath and Hinch. But then, in about five minutes of play, Bintang stalwart Quinny bagged 5 goals. Although some were from questionable umpiring decisions (just ask Paddy), the scores were registered and lead to the Bintangs winning by 16 points.

Baz and monga played there first games, although they were not in the action as much as there taller companion.

One of the Bintangs gave Peter Zamp an unwelcome birthday present in the form of a cracked bone in his shoulder, as well as ligament damage. Happy birthday Zamp.
