Jakarta Bintangs 22 10 142
Bali Geckos 10 8 68
The Geckos were certainly going in to their first ever away game as underdogs. Although we looked good on paper, our depth was going to be tested by the 14 a side format and larger ground at Cibubur. The committee decided to travel early Saturday morning, rather than risk loosing players to the Friday night entertainment in Jakarta. A decision that may not have turned out as we liked; the fact that we played 12 hours after we left Bali certainly played a part in our at times lack of desire for the ball. The Bintangs came out firing, scoring a number of goals in the first few minutes of the game and ending up with 7 goals to nil in the first quarter. During the third quarter things got rather heated. The lack of goals on the scoreboard was getting to the Geckos. This, along with the umpire seemingly forgetting to umpire, led to a fair bit of pushing and shoving which then evolved into a bit of an all-in. Hinchy become the first ever geckos ever sent from the field. Oddly enough, big American Ross was not sent off for giving a Bintang a poke with his foot in full view of the umpire. Although the Geckos’ endeavor was not always 100% during the game, a good effort was put in considering the number of first ever players in the team.
